SEMH Teaching Assistant - 1:1 Support

Location: Thornton Heath, CR7

Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday

Pay rate: (Apply online only) per day

Long Term Futures are working in partnership with a well-regarded primary school in Thornton Heath (CR7), seeking a skilled and resilient teaching assistant to support a Year 2 pupil on a 1:1 basis. This is a full-time role, starting immediately and continuing until the end of the academic year - with the potential to go permanent for the right person.
You will be supporting a child in Year 2 who presents with SEMH needs, including emotional regulation challenges and difficulties with peer interaction. You'll be working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement an individualised support plan that promotes progress both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 SEMH support throughout the school day, based in Year 2.
  • Implement tailored behaviour strategies to support self-regulation and concentration in class.
  • Liaise with the SENCo and parents to update on progress and needs
  • Encourage social inclusion and engagement during lessons and breaks
  • Create a calm, structured environment that promotes emotional security and act as a role model to promote positive behaviour.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Level 3 TA qualification or relevant qualification to support children with SEMH needs.
  • Experienced TAs are highly encouraged to apply
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support techniques
  • A passion for supporting vulnerable pupils to thrive
