Maintenance Team Leader – £58,549 – Leicester (Nights)

Shift Pattern: Panama (6:30am – 6:30pm, 3-on/2-off rotation)

We are seeking a driven and confident Maintenance Team Leader to join a high-speed food production site in Leicester. This hands-on leadership role involves overseeing a small team of engineers while remaining active in delivering both proactive and reactive maintenance support on highly automated systems.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Base salary: £58,549
  • Regular overtime available (earning potential +£2,000)
  • Overtime rate: x1.12
  • 7% matched pension
  • 20 days holiday (plus bank holidays)

Your Role

As a Maintenance Team Leader, you will lead a team of 3–5 engineers on a permanent night shift. You’ll be responsible for delegating tasks, managing holiday rotas, supporting appraisals, and ensuring smooth shift handovers—all while delivering essential maintenance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of engineers during night shifts
  • Assigning and overseeing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks
  • Responding to breakdowns and ensuring effective reactive maintenance
  • Taking part in project work and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Developing engineering capability through training and guidance
  • Participating in appraisals, disciplinaries, and day-to-day leadership duties
  • Ensuring accurate maintenance documentation and compliance

Maintenance Expertise Required

This position requires solid hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment. The successful candidate will:

  • Hold NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Demonstrate strong electrical fault-finding skills (multimeter use, safety circuits, panels, motors, sensors, relays)
  • Be confident in mechanical maintenance (belts, chains, bearings, vibration diagnostics)
  • Be able to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Have experience working within a structured maintenance regime (PPM & reactive)
  • Possess working knowledge of PLC input/output checks and HMIs (no programming needed)
  • Have the ability to work under pressure and lead by example during urgent maintenance situations
