We require a NaVCIS Ports Field Intelligence Development Officer to cover an existing workload within National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS), based in Port of Tilbury.

This is an interim position for an initial 6 months with the potential to be extended, dependent on workload.

Job Purpose:

  • We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join us as a Field Intelligence officer, within a National Policing Unit working to ensure safer communities in the UK and around the world.
  • Based at The Port of Tilbury you will lead on identifying and recovering stolen vehicles being exported through UK ports through intelligence development and partnership working.
  • You will carry out a basic level of crime investigation in support of NaVCIS and National Policing objectives.
  • This role will encompass a wide range of intelligence development and investigative activities including searches to identify and seize stolen property; and may potentially involve attending court and giving evidence.
  • Liaison with stakeholders and industry partners is an essential part of the role.
  • The post will suit a candidate with knowledge of vehicle identification including theft and cloning methods.
  • Occasional travel will be required but a car is provided for this purpose.

Skills and experience needed to be successful in this role:

  • Experience in evidence gathering and intelligence work owing to the  nature and responsibilities of the role.
  • A working knowledge of criminal law and the criminal justice system, CPIA, IPA, NIM, CHIS code of practise, intelligence and investigation.
  • Evidenced report writing and communication skills e.g. the production of clear, concise and accurate records, letters and reports as well as verbal delivery and presentation to diverse audiences.
  • Either a qualified vehicle examiner or prepared to attend and complete the vehicle examiner course.

This role offers a competitive salary of £32,247 – £34,329 per annum FTC – with the view to turning permanent.
