Our client, a haulage companyis looking for a Traffic Operator to join their office in Tilbury.
Ideally with a container haulage background, knowledge of VBS and Tops traffic system would be a massive plus.
Hours of work would be (Apply online only) Monday to Friday (finishing 0800 Saturday morning)
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and organised Freight Traffic Operator to join our logistics team. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the movement of freight by road, ensuring deliveries are completed efficiently, on time, and in line with customer and company requirements. You will play a key part in managing daily traffic operations, liaising with drivers, customers, and internal teams to deliver a high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily freight movements within the UK and/or internationally.
- Monitor vehicle locations, routes, and delivery progress using transport management systems.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, providing instructions and resolving any issues during transit.
- Liaise with customers regarding delivery times, updates, and any delays or issues.
- Ensure compliance with transport legislation, driver hours, and health & safety regulations.
- Manage freight documentation, including delivery notes, CMRs, and customs paperwork (if applicable).
- Work closely with warehouse and customer service teams to ensure smooth operational flow.
- Support in cost control by optimising routes and maximising vehicle utilisation.
- Handle freight quotations, bookings, and rate negotiations where required.
- Report and record any service failures, accidents, or vehicle issues.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in a traffic office, transport planning, or freight forwarding environment.
- Strong understanding of UK and/or European road freight operations.
- Excellent organisational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Confident communicator with the ability to liaise at all levels.
- Good geographical knowledge and understanding of transport routes.
- Proficient in using transport management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of driver regulations, WTD, and compliance requirements.
