Job Purpose:

To oversee the daily operations of the transport department, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of goods. The role requires strong leadership, excellent organisational skills, and in-depth knowledge of ADR (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) and CPC regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of drivers and transport staff.
  • Ensure full compliance with ADR regulations for the transport of hazardous materials.
  • Monitor driver CPC compliance and training schedules.
  • Plan and optimise delivery routes to maximize efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Conduct regular vehicle and driver audits to ensure safety and legal compliance.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Investigate and resolve transport-related issues, including delays, accidents, and complaints.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, driver hours, and transport documentation.
  • Support the Transport Manager in strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are upheld across all transport operations.

Requirements:

  • Valid ADR certification (desirable but needs to have experience)
  • Valid Driver CPC qualification. (desirable but not essential)
  • Proven experience in a supervisory role within a transport or logistics environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of tachograph analysis and driver hours regulations.
