People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Service Hand to join our well-established client based in Tipton on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity offering an excellent annual salary and room to grow and progress. The Service Hand will support the Shift Supervisor in maintaining the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted flow of production.

Hours of Work37 hours per week plus overtime, working rotational shifts: 6:00am – 2:00pm and 2:00pm – 10:00pm.

Salary£31,173 per year plus 7.5% rotational shift allowance (£33,510 total).

Day to Day Duties

  • Support the Shift Supervisor and charge hands with routine and ad hoc activities.
  • Ensure safe working practices and maintain high standards of health and safety.
  • Assist with the movement of materials, goods, and WIP throughout the production space, including support to Goods In and despatch processes.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping and cleanliness across all bays, cells, and factory areas.
  • Complete weekly Service Hand log sheets covering:
  • Routine checks on equipment (cranes, forklifts, MEWP, etc.)
  • Cleaning and tidying of work areas, gangways, and waste bins
  • Coolant changes and waste removal
  • Replenishment of gas bottles, PPE, and sanitation dispensers
  • Organisation of lifting gear, COSHH materials, and plant/equipment relocation
  • Support to the maintenance team, including painting and facility upkeep
  • Control of laydown areas, bollards, barriers, and signage
  • Preparing the facility for planned closures (e.g., Christmas shutdown)
  • Manage key cabinets and maintain accurate records of completed tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience as a general maintenance person, handyman, or similar industrial role
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Awareness of EHS requirements in an industrial environment
  • Ability to record work accurately and maintain high standards of housekeeping
  • Lifting and slinging experience
  • General maintenance and DIY skills
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Self-motivated, approachable, and proactive
  • Good time management and ability to work on own initiative
  • Flexible approach to work and working hours (in line with EU Working Time Directive)

Desirable Skills

  • Trade skills (mechanical, electrical, or similar)
  • Overhead crane operator experience
  • First aid or fire warden/marshal trained
  • Forklift truck / counterbalance training
  • IPAF qualified (cherry picker, scissor lift)

Training

  • On-the-job training will be provided for the right candidate, including health & safety, equipment operation, and facility maintenance procedures.
  • Opportunities to gain additional certifications such as forklift, IPAF, first aid, and fire warden qualifications.
