Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (Activity Instructors Background)

GSL Education are seeking dynamic and motivated individuals with a background as Activity Instructors to join a specialist SEN school as SEN Teaching Assistants in Tonbridge. Your practical experience leading structured group activities will be invaluable in supporting students with complex needs.

About the Role:

You will support children and young people with a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Using your activity planning, behaviour management, and motivational skills, you’ll help students build confidence, engage with learning, and develop essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in the classroom and during off-site learning and enrichment activities.
  • Promote student engagement through movement-based and experiential learning approaches.
  • Help implement EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and behaviour strategies.
  • Assist with personal development, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and SEN coordinators to support learning goals.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all pupils at all times.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience as an Activity Instructor, Sports Leader, Camp Coordinator, or similar role.
  • Previous experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant, or a similar support role in a classroom or school setting, is preferred.
  • Patience, adaptability and a genuine commitment to supporting students' growth.
  • Understanding of various Special Educational Needs conditions, including autism and ADHD etc.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
