GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant with previous experience as a Health Care Assistant to work within a specialist setting in Tonbridge. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

About the role:

In this role, you will support children with a variety of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and communication difficulties, physical disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health challenges. You will be assisting with learning, wellbeing, and, where needed, personal care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to each child’s individual needs.
  • Assist pupils with personal care and medical needs where appropriate.
  • Help children regulate emotions and engage in classroom activities.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists to follow personalised support plans.
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and respectful learning environment.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to support learning and development.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant, Support Worker, or similar role in care or SEN settings.
  • Knowledge of various SEN conditions (e.g., autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • A genuine passion for working with children with special educational needs.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
