A fantastic opportunity is now available for a Senior Systems Design Engineer to join a leading R&D organisation, specialising in the development of optical systems and components used in aerospace and defence applications.

Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

This position requires a broad knowledge base in fibre-optics, photonics and related technologies. Although you will be working as part of a team, you should be capable of working independently and be a self-starter, able to progress projects and trouble-shoot problems with little supervision. The role offers a wide variety of activity, from involvement in initial product concepts, hardware development and customer interaction. Main duties include:

• Design and development of photonic and/or fibre-optic components, modules and sub-systems
• Utilise the companies fibre optic and opto-electronic components to develop cutting edge products, working within a multidisciplinary team that includes mechanical and electronic design engineers
• Active involvement in prototype build & test
• Present results clearly and concisely for both internal and external customers

Ideal candidates will have the following:

• A degree in Engineering or Physics
• Broad knowledge base in fibre-optics, photonics and related technologies
• Self-starter - capable of working under your own steam
• Able to progress projects and trouble-shoot problems with little supervision
