Job Summary:

The cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, balanced meals for children in a safe and hygienic kitchen environment. This role requires attention to dietary needs, food safety standards, and child-friendly meal planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare daily meals and snacks according to approved menus.
  • Ensure meals are nutritious, age-appropriate, and meet any special dietary requirements (e.g., allergies, religious restrictions).
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen in compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Store food safely and monitor inventory to reduce waste and ensure freshness.
  • Serve meals in a timely and organised manner.
  • Work cooperatively with care staff to support mealtimes and routines.
  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience cooking in a residential or institutional setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices (Food Handler Certificate may be required).
  • Ability to follow menus and prepare meals in appropriate portions.
  • Understanding of children's dietary needs and nutrition.
  • Reliable, organised, and able to work independently.

Work Environment:

  • Residential care setting for children.
