Chief Engineer


Orion is working with a leading manufacturing company with over 75 years in business that has been a leader in high-performance pressure for decades. They serve critical applications across Defence, Industrial Gas, and Energy sectors globally. With innovation at the core of everything they do, they are now seeking a strategic and technically excellent Chief Engineer to lead their engineering team into the future.

The Role:
As Chief Engineer, you will be the technical authority for all engineering functions. Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will oversee product design and development, R&D initiatives, engineering standards, and compliance. You will be instrumental in ensuring their solutions remain at the forefront of reliability, safety, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities of the Chief Engineer:

  • Being responsible for design reviews.
  • Drive innovation and new product development in line with market and customer needs.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and industry standards (ISO, ASME, PED, ATEX, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Operations, and Sales to align technical solutions with commercial strategy.
  • Manage engineering budgets, timelines, and resource planning.
  • Act as the technical liaison with global teams and customers.
  • Promote continuous improvement through lean engineering and design-for-manufacture principles.

Required Experience & Skills for the Chief Engineer:

  • Degree-qualified (or similar) in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Chartered Engineer preferred).
  • 10 years of experience in an engineering leadership role within a manufacturing or process-control industry.
  • Deep understanding of fluid dynamics, valves, pneumatics, and high-pressure systems.
  • Proven experience in product lifecycle management, from concept to production.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and engineering quality standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
