Shift Supervisor – Machine Shop (7 on / 7 off Days)

Package: £55,140 – £60,654

(Base salary £50,000–£55,000 + 10.28% shift allowance)

Shift Pattern: 7 days on / 7 days off, 7:00am – 5:00pm

Overview

A market-leading precision engineering manufacturer is seeking an experienced Shift Supervisor to lead operations within a high-performance machine shop. Working as part of a management team, you will oversee up to 72 operators (shared between Supervisors), ensuring production targets are achieved, quality standards maintained, and team members supported and developed effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, allocate, and coordinate work across machines and operators to achieve production schedules and output targets.
  • Ensure all components meet drawing specifications and quality inspection requirements, including first-off and in-process checks.
  • Oversee machine set-up, TPM routines, and resource availability, escalating downtime issues promptly.
  • Act as the first point of contact for technical queries, on-shift problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Manage team performance, conduct appraisals, address absence, and complete return-to-work and employee relations processes.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, skills development, and succession planning.
  • Maintain strong communication between shifts and uphold site standards and health & safety compliance.
  • Promote employee engagement, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Use SAP/MRP systems to manage workflow, attendance, approvals, and reporting.

Experience & Background

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a machine shop or precision engineering environment.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in production/manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and apply inspection processes.
  • Competent user of ERP/MRP systems (SAP or equivalent).
  • Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of CNC machining or programming.
  • Experience managing large operational teams across shift patterns.
