Design Manager – £69,593 - £81,123 – Stockton or Wakefield

The Role

Are you an experienced electrical design engineer ready to lead and inspire a growing team? Do you have a strong understanding of (E)HV networks and the drive to shape design processes from the ground up?

We’re looking for a Design Manager to join our IUS business and take ownership of developing and delivering detailed engineering designs across all workstreams. This is a key leadership role offering both strategic and hands-on responsibilities, with the flexibility of hybrid working (4 days in-office, 1 from home).

You will lead a multi-skilled team to ensure the consistent delivery of quality design solutions, enhancing existing procedures and supporting operational success, you’ll also be responsible for team development and ensuring the company remains compliant and competitive in its delivery of services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians
  • Oversee the delivery of detailed designs from 11kV to 132kV networks
  • Improve design processes to reduce risk and ensure compliance
  • Build an operations-based design function that supports business growth
  • Develop and implement a company-wide design strategy and framework
  • Act as key liaison for external design partners and contractors
  • Ensure quality assurance processes are in place across all design projects
  • Prepare the business to act as Principal Designer under CDM regulations
  • Maintain high team utilisation and meet customer satisfaction targets
  • Identify and develop internal talent and capability for future growth

The Person

  • HNC or higher in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards it
  • Strong knowledge of HV and EHV design, including substations and underground networks
  • Familiar with design and construction best practices within the power sector
  • Able to communicate clearly and manage relationships across internal and external stakeholders
  • Confident in leading, mentoring, and developing a technical team
