Futures recruitment are looking to appoint a CAD Programmer with hands-on experience using Alphacam. This role involves interpreting and preparing customer-supplied CAD files (STEP, PDF, physical templates) to produce accurate programs and toolpaths for routering operations. You will work closely with production and design teams to ensure precision, quality, and manufacturability of parts.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret and process customer CAD files, particularly STEP files, identifying suitable machining operations and breaking down complex assemblies into individual parts.

• Convert 3D models into usable 2D geometry for toolpath creation.

• Identify key features such as rebates or V-grooves that may not be present in automated programming and ensure they are accurately added.

• Create and apply appropriate toolpaths, including defining feeds, speeds, and tool selection based on material and geometry.

• Interpret engineering drawings (PDF format) and replicate them accurately in Alphacam, incorporating additional features as needed for fabrication.

• Measure and reverse-engineer physical templates or parts, drawing them in Alphacam for production.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role and be capable of independently producing accurate router programs from a variety of customer inputs. Specifically, you will have:

• Hands-on experience programming routers using Alphacam

• The ability to read and interpret STEP files, break down complex assemblies, and identify suitable machining processes

• Experience creating 2D geometry and toolpaths from 3D models

• The ability to spot missing or implied features (like rebates or V-grooves) and apply them appropriately

• Confidence in replicating engineering drawings and physical parts accurately within Alphacam
