Our clients based in Wakefield is a well established reputable manufacturing business known for their staff retention and excellent work environment. We are looking to appoint a buildings maintenance engineer to support the upkeep of the facility.

The Buildings Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing maintenance and functionality of the facility’s infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical, and structural systems. This hands-on role requires the ability to carry out minor repairs, diagnose faults, and manage external contractors for more extensive work.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Carry out routine inspections and preventive maintenance of building systems (lighting, HVAC, plumbing, doors, fire alarms, etc.).

• Perform minor electrical and mechanical repairs, such as replacing fittings, basic wiring, pump maintenance, and HVAC troubleshooting.

• Liaise with, coordinate, and supervise external contractors and service providers to ensure work is completed to specification, on time, and within budget.

• Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and contractor work.

• Respond promptly to facility-related issues or breakdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.

• Ensure all work complies with relevant health & safety and building regulations.

• Support energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives where applicable.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance procedures and facility performance.

Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in building maintenance within an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• Hands-on capability in minor electrical (e.g., lighting circuits, small repairs) and mechanical work (e.g., HVAC components, plumbing).

• Experience managing external contractors and ensuring work is delivered to agreed standards and timelines.

• Good working knowledge of building systems and regulatory requirements.

• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

• Able to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively.

• IT literate (familiar with CMMS systems is a plus).
