Are you an experienced bookkeeper or assistant accountant looking to join a supportive and growing accountancy practice?

Reed Practice is working with a well-established, close-knit firm in Walsall that is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant / Bookkeeper to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with accountancy practice experience and strong VAT knowledge who is ready to take on a varied and hands-on role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and maintaining accurate bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients
  • Processing sales and purchase invoices, bank reconciliations, and journals
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns in line with HMRC regulations
  • Assisting with the preparation of management accounts and year-end accounts
  • Supporting payroll processing and liaising with clients on payroll-related matters
  • Communicating directly with clients to resolve queries and provide financial support
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and deadlines

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience working in an accountancy practice (essential)
  • Hands-on experience with VAT returns (essential)
  • Strong bookkeeping and reconciliation skills
  • Excellent communication and client service abilities
  • High attention to detail and good IT skills (e.g., Excel, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
  • A proactive and organised approach to work
