Job Information:

  • Youth In Sight is a multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of our adolescents aged 10-18 with complex needs relating to mental health or emotional dysregulation
  • Youth In Sight aim to reduce risk by working alongside the child and family at the earliest possible opportunity to avoid family breakdown and the admission into residential care.
  • The multi-disciplinary team aims to empower, understand and support young people and their families at times of need. The team adopts a holistic and coordinated approach when working with parents, the young person and the network that surrounds the family.
  • Utilises the initial period of intervention to understand the family context and patterns; this is done through the use of genograms. Parents own experiences of being parented is explored to determine what is influencing their parenting style.
  • The aim of this is to support with challenging any unhelpful scripts and aiding them to adapt in ways that are safer both emotionally and physically for their child(ren). All work varies across families and is tailored according to assessment of need and the family's wishes in alignment with their needs through Family Help. Work is achieved on an individual basis or through joint sessions.
  • Joint sessions to facilitate a space for family members to be open and honest with one another and supporting different views being heard. It is also to help families be more coordinated and cohesive; Various techniques are utilised, with the style of systemic questioning being one, to help family members connect with the thoughts and feelings of one another. One-to-one spaces are provided for young people to process their emotions and manage their emotional wellbeing and mental health.
  • This includes discussion of difficult past experience and process trauma and also discuss present experiences and emotions connected to being in crisis or strained and tumultuous family relationships and home environments. Young people are supported through one-to-one therapeutic intervention and helped to process emotions and devise strategies and techniques to support emotional regulation.

The systemic family therapist identifies problem-solving patterns within the family system and wider context and works to challenge these patterns through various systemic theory/approaches and techniques.
