Attendance Officer (Traded Support)

Pay rate:16.34ph PAYE / 21.42ph Umbrella

Hours: 37 hours, Term time only.

Working arrangements: Hybrid working

Length: 3 months on-going, until March 2025 (Potential to March 2027)

The School Attendance Support Service works with schools in Walsall to monitor and enforce regular attendance. We work closely with families and schools to understand and address the reasons for absences and develop strategies for improving attendance.

We are looking for motivated, dynamic and ambitious Attendance Officers, someone that has strong organisational and communication skills as well as being a good team player. Successful applicants will support, to work with schools and families, to ensure that children are receiving an education and achieving their potential.

As part of the attendance team, applicants will need to have experience within an educational setting and have experience with supporting attendance.

Applicants will be expected to work independently, within a statutory framework and a graduated system with a restorative approach. Successful applicants will work closely with pupils, staff, parents, and carers to reduce levels of absence. This will involve home visits, parental meetings and supporting schools to raise participation of children and young people at risk of becoming persistently absent.

Essential

  • Experience working with children, young people, and families
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with families, schools, and partner agencies
  • The confidence and creativity to deliver flexible, responsive support tailored to individual needs
  • Excellent report writing and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied and busy caseload
  • Proficiency in IT systems for maintaining accurate records and analysing data to inform decision-making
  • Experience of working as part of a team and contributing to service development
  • The ability to provide advice and support verbally in clear and accurate spoken English is essential
