Estimator – Construction

£60,000 – £80,000 per annum (DOE) + benefits

Ridgeway & Co are working with an established and reputable building contractor based in Hertfordshire, who are looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to join their growing commercial team.
This contractor delivers a wide range of projects across residential, commercial, public sector, and insurance works, including new build, refurbishment, and planned/reactive maintenance schemes throughout London and the South East.
The Role
You will play a key role in the tendering and pre-construction process, preparing accurate and competitive pricing for construction projects and collaborating closely with internal departments to support successful bid submissions and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities

Produce accurate and detailed cost estimates for a range of construction projects

Conduct take-offs from drawings, specifications, and site visits

Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations

Prepare tender documentation and assist in bid presentations

Support directors and quantity surveyors throughout the pre-construction phase

Track tenders, maintain pricing databases, and support value engineering
Requirements
-
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a construction Estimator (main contractor or subcontractor)

Strong knowledge of JCT contracts and traditional procurement methods

Ability to work on projects from £100k to £5m+

Proficient in Microsoft Excel; estimating software experience is advantageous

Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail

Effective communicator with good time management and organisation
