The Role
As Technical Director, you will play a key leadership role, guiding the technical delivery of planning projects and ensuring the highest standards of service and compliance are upheld. You'll work closely with planning consultants, clients, local authorities, and external stakeholders to bring clarity and confidence to often complex development challenges.
Responsibilities
路Provide technical oversight across planning applications, appeals, site appraisals, and environmental assessments
路Lead on due diligence, feasibility studies, and risk management for major development projects
路Work collaboratively with directors and senior planners to shape project strategy and client deliverables
路Act as a key point of contact for technical guidance both internally and externally
路Mentor junior team members and support their professional development
路Maintain up-to-date knowledge of planning legislation, environmental policy, and technical innovations
About You
You will bring a deep understanding of the planning and development landscape, coupled with technical insight and strategic thinking. Ideally, you'll have:
路A relevant degree in planning, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline
路Significant experience in a technical or senior planning consultancy role
路Strong leadership and project management skills
路A proven ability to manage complex planning issues and deliver innovative solutions
路Excellent communication skills, with confidence in presenting technical information clearly
路Chartered MRTPI status
