Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Engineer role
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager you will:
- Lead the mechanical maintenance team, fulfilling line management duties and driving performance.
- Manage mechanical services and contractors, ensuring quality, effectiveness, and value.
- Plan and supervise maintenance, including preventive work and shutdowns.
- Respond to equipment failures, investigate root causes, and implement timely fixes.
- Manage maintenance budgets and optimise spare parts availability.
- Ensure statutory compliance, maintaining and testing safety devices, lifting equipment, and PSSR-regulated systems.
- Deliver emergency repair services to maintain plant availability.
- Support audits and compliance checks, both internal and external.
- Develop obsolescence plans for aging mechanical assets.
- Assist cross-functional teams, including Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation support when needed.
- Promote a strong safety culture, following procedures and reporting all incidents and hazards.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
- Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification such as HNC/HND/Degree.
- Have previous experience in mechanical maintenance or engineering in a heavy process environment.
- Have experience managing a team
- Ability to manage multiple contractors / maintenance contracts
- A Safety qualification such as IOSH / NEBOSH or equivalent
