Senior Mechanical Engineer - Sellafield SRP Project (Contract)
Warrington | 3 Days On-Site (Hybrid) | National Infrastructure Project
51-56/hour (Umbrella) | Long-Term Contract
We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support delivery on the Sellafield Product & Residue Store (SPRS) Retreatment Plant (SRP) - a key nuclear infrastructure programme handling Special Nuclear Materials (SNM) for safe long-term storage until 2120.
The project is in its execution phase, and this role is critical in ensuring mechanical design solutions are technically sound, compliant, and ready for installation, commissioning, and operation.

Role Overview

  • Lead the delivery of mechanical plant and equipment design, including glovebox systems and external support equipment
  • Produce and check specifications, drawings, assessments, and verification deliverables
  • Support resolution of manufacturing and testing queries, TQs, and concessions
  • Oversee design change implementation and ensure configuration control
  • Collaborate with CE&I engineers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated solutions
  • Contribute to test documentation (works test, integrated test) and site installation planning
  • Mentor and guide junior designers and oversee document quality


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Advanced user of Autodesk Inventor and Vault Basic/Pro
  • Familiarity with GPS ISO (BS 8888) and plant layout/integration
  • Experience managing and directing design teams on mechanical plant and equipment
  • Understanding of installation, alignment, and works testing of complex systems
  • Strong record in resolving manufacturing issues and supporting document control


Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Sellafield Ltd engineering standards
  • Knowledge of glovebox containment design, safety case awareness
  • Working knowledge of CDM, PUWER, LOLER, and SoMSR compliance
  • Familiarity with nuclear design and integration principles


Contract Details

  • Rate: 51-56/hour (via umbrella company)
  • Location: Hybrid - minimum 3 days/week on-site, up to 5 days depending on project needs
  • Additional: Site visits to supplier premises may be required
  • Security: Must hold or be eligible for SC clearance
  • Tools: Work to be completed on Sellafield-issued laptop at an approved location
