We are seeking a Mechanical Services Engineer to deliver mechanical services maintenance, planned and capital works, and lead multi-disciplinary design teams for improvement and refurbishment projects. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with service level agreements and legislative standards, and it offers a dynamic work environment with both office and home-based settings.
Day-to-day of the role:Maintenance & Repairs
- Assess and manage response repair requests.
- Issue and monitor contractor orders and performance.
- Conduct on-site inspections and quality checks.
Project Delivery
- Lead mechanical engineering aspects of projects from feasibility to completion.
- Prepare specifications, tender documentation, and CAD drawings.
- Act as Contract Administrator under JCT or similar contracts.
- Manage planning applications, building control, and defect resolution.
Surveying & Reporting
- Conduct condition and asset surveys.
- Prepare technical and financial reports.
- Provide cost estimates and manage budgets.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to CDM regulations and H&S legislation.
- Prepare and review risk assessments and method statements.
- Ensure accessibility and energy efficiency standards are met.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with schools, academies, building managers, and internal teams.
- Provide professional advice and training to colleagues.
- Manage post-project satisfaction surveys.
Performance & Procurement
- Contribute to performance management and KPI reporting.
- Ensure compliance with procurement laws and data protection regulations.
- Experience leading mechanical/building services projects from inception to completion.
- Proficiency in managing multiple response repair works.
- Skilled in using AutoCAD, NBS/NES, and standard office software.
- Knowledge of current legislation and best practices in mechanical engineering and decarbonisation.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Effective workload management and initiative.
- Professional relationship-building and client engagement.
- Ability to assess technical failures and develop procedures.
- ONC/OND and HNC/HND in Building Services (or equivalent).
- Working towards Chartered Membership of CIBSE (or equivalent).
- Awareness of construction-related H&S legislation.
- Ability to travel using own vehicle.
- Decision-making and problem-solving under minimal supervision.
