Job Overview:We are seeking a skilled and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Inpatient Surgical & Respiratory Therapy Team within an acute NHS medical setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality therapy services to patients with surgical and respiratory conditions, supporting their recovery and promoting independence during their inpatient stay.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive assessments and treatment plans for patients within the acute surgical and respiratory wards

  • Provide goal-oriented, evidence-based interventions tailored to individual patient needs

  • Facilitate safe and effective discharge planning in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team

  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary

  • Work closely with physiotherapists, nurses, consultants, and discharge coordinators to ensure integrated care

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with NHS standards

  • Contribute to service development, audits, and quality improvement initiatives

  • Support junior staff and students through supervision and guidance where appropriate

Key Requirements:

  • HCPC registered Occupational Therapist

  • Minimum of 6 months NHS experience

  • Proven experience working in an acute inpatient setting, preferably within surgical or respiratory teams

  • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and treatment planning skills

  • Excellent communication and teamworking abilities

  • Confident in managing a varied caseload in a fast-paced hospital environment

  • Committed to ongoing professional development
