Your new companyHays Recruitment is proud to be supporting a Warrington-based SEND school that is easily accessible bia public transport as they are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated qualified teaching assistant for a long-term temporary contract. This is a well-established school that is at the heart of its local community that supports pupils from EYFS - KS4 with an array of profound needs that include specific learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, profound and multiple learning disabilities, visual impairments, and more. Your new roleAs a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting pupils on a 1:1 and 2:1 basis with an array of complex needs. You will be based within KS3, supporting the class teachers to promote a stimulating and engaging learning environment, but will at times be asked to support within other key stages. As you will be working with multiple varying needs that include ASD, LD, non-verbal, visual impairments, etc, you will be required to take a pupil-centred approach to education as to ensure that the individual needs, emotional state and personalities of each pupil are not only met but at the heart of all operations. Your main duties will include the likes of implementation of positive behaviour strategies, speech and language interventions, sensory play/therapy, and behavioural interventions with other duties consisting of personal/intimate care requirements, liaison with teachers/SENCo/guardians, and completing observations. Due to the needs of the pupils, they will at times present complex behaviours. In this event, you will ensure that pupils are removed from an overstimulating, triggering and/or upsetting environment.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, be at least Level 3 or equivalent qualified and have a minimum of 40 days referenceable teaching assistant experience within the last 2 years. Other desirables include:

  • Experience supporting SEN: ASD, LD, PMLD and non-verbal is preferred
  • Experience using PECs and Makaton
  • Be comfortable completing intimate/personal care requirements
