Rapidly growing internet retailer partnering with leading brands to process and refurbish returned products, reselling them at the highest achievable value.

My client is seeking an experienced Furniture Engineer to join the refurbishment team on site in Golborne. You will play a pivotal role in restoring and enhancing the value of various furniture items while meeting my clients high-quality standards.

Job Responsibilities

As a Furniture Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Furniture Restoration:
    • Conduct repairs and restorations on upholstered furniture (leather and fabric), fully constructed wooden furniture, flat-pack units, dining sets, and bedroom furniture.
    • Utilize advanced techniques for stain removal, upholstery repair, colour restoration, joint strengthening, and veneer or surface refinishing.
  • Assessment and Grading:
    • Evaluate damages, identify repair feasibility, and grade items according to my clients grading guide.
    • Make informed decisions about repair techniques and materials based on furniture type and damage severity.
  • Technical Repairs:
    • Perform structural repairs, including frame reinforcement and joint realignment.
    • Replace or repair hardware such as hinges, handles, and mechanisms.
    • Restore or replace damaged fabric, leather, and foam components, ensuring a like-new appearance.
  • Data and Documentation:
    • Accurately input product details into cloud-based systems, verifying and correcting existing data.
    • Maintain detailed records of repair actions and materials used.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others.
    • Follow GDPR principles when handling customer data.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work to achieve daily/weekly/monthly production targets as part of a high-performing team.
    • Support and share expertise with team members to improve overall productivity.

Required Skills and Experience

We are looking for candidates who bring:

  • Proven technical repair skills across furniture categories, including structural repairs, upholstery restoration, and surface refinishing.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to assess and meet online buyer expectations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in a furniture-related industry (retail, manufacturing, or refurbishment).
  • Physical capability to safely handle and repair heavy furniture items using proper manual handling techniques.
  • Familiarity with data entry and spreadsheet systems (training can be provided).

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of furniture manufacturing techniques and materials.
  • Awareness of current trends and quality expectations in online retail furniture sales.
  • Ability to innovate or improve repair processes and techniques.
