Trainee Workshop Fitter Job Overview

A specialist engineering firm, focused on bespoke environmental testing solutions, is offering an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Workshop Fitter to join a close-knit, multi-skilled team. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a hands-on engineering career with long-term development opportunities.

About the Role:

Working in a small, collaborative workshop environment, you'll assist in the assembly and installation of custom-built equipment used across industries such as aerospace, automotive, military, and general engineering. Over time, you'll gain the skills needed to work independently on both in-house and site-based projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble refrigeration pipework systems (copper to copper/brass/steel) using techniques such as oxy-acetylene brazing, silver soldering, flaring, swaging, and nitrogen purging
  • Interpret and work from schematic drawings
  • Fit mechanical components including sheet metal panels, doors, hinges, seals, windows, and light fixtures using a variety of hand and power tools
  • Assist with the safe movement of heavy machinery using hoists, skates, slings, and related equipment
  • Support senior engineers on site, helping with pipework installation, panel structure assembly, cabling, drainage installation, and general site prep
  • Develop toward working independently on installation and commissioning work, both in-house and at client locations
  • Progression paths available into areas such as refrigeration service, electrical wiring, commissioning, or workshop management
Trainee Workshop Fitter Job Requirements
  • Basic experience with tools in a workshop setting is preferred but not essential
  • Looking to begin a career within a workshop / engineering environment
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and eagerness to learn
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
