About the Role

A fantastic opportunity is available for an experienced Yard Manager to take charge of a busy builders merchant yard in Watford. This position requires strong leadership, excellent organisation, and a hands-on approach to managing the yard and supporting customer needs.

The Yard Manager will play a vital role in ensuring all stock is handled efficiently and safely, leading a team of yard staff and maintaining a clean, organised working environment. The yard operates in a fast-paced setting, and the ideal Yard Manager will thrive under pressure while delivering high standards in all areas.

This role is based at the Watford branch and involves overseeing daily operations and ensuring customer satisfaction at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all goods in/out, including loading, unloading, and handling of materials

  • Supervise, support, and lead a team of yard staff to maintain performance and safety

  • Ensure accurate stock management and efficient movement of materials

  • Keep the yard in Watford clean, well-organised, and compliant with safety standards

  • Provide excellent service to customers visiting the Watford site

  • Conduct regular checks to ensure adherence to all health and safety procedures

  • Produce activity reports and contribute to the overall efficiency of the yard

What’s Required

  • Proven experience in a Yard Manager or similar supervisory role within a builders merchant or similar environment

  • Strong team leadership and communication skills

  • Solid understanding of health and safety in a yard setting

  • Good working knowledge of building materials (preferred)

  • Valid Counterbalance Forklift licence (required)

  • Comfortable with manual handling and using yard equipment

  • Basic IT skills for stock and reporting systems

  • Full UK driving licence may be required

  • Must be able to reliably commute to Watford
