Are you a people-focused, commercially-minded HR professional ready to step into a pivotal leadership role? We’re looking for an ambitious HR Manager to join the team based at the Watford HQ for this leading FMCG / Retail business. This is a fully on-site position reporting into a Fractional HR Director and the COO, managing one HR Administrator, with the scope to grow the team in future. This is a key opportunity to lead and evolve the HR function — not just operationally, but strategically.

You’ll deliver the people strategy, support business transformation, drive digitalisation, and embed HR as a true value-add partner at the heart of the organisation. We’re especially interested in candidates from fast-paced, people-driven environments such as FMCG, Retail, or Hospitality.

What you’ll be doing:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Deliver and evolve the HR strategy to align with broader business goals.
  • Support ongoing organisational change and transformation initiatives.
  • Lead the digitalisation of HR systems, processes and practices.
  • Embed a modern, added-value HR function that actively contributes to business performance.

People & Culture:

  • Champion the full employee lifecycle - from recruitment to retention - with a focus on engagement, development and wellbeing.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships across all levels of the business, acting as a visible and accessible people partner.
  • Design and implement inclusive people initiatives that support a positive and high-performance culture.

Employee Relations & Leadership Coaching:

  • Lead on complex employee relations matters, including investigations, grievances and disciplinaries.
  • Provide commercially sound and legally compliant advice to managers.
  • Coach leaders to confidently manage teams and embed people-first leadership behaviours.

Change & Conflict Management:

  • Act as the go-to for conflict resolution across the business, fostering a collaborative and respectful workplace. Champion initiatives that reduce absence, support wellbeing, and drive resilience during change

HR Operations & Compliance:

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and policy implementation.
  • Ensure accurate HR records, system integrity, and legal compliance across all HR activities.
  • Drive improvements through better use of data, technology, and streamlined processes.

What we’re looking for:

  • CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent experience in HR leadership)
  • Proven generalist HR experience including employee relations, policy, change and transformation
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-site environment (Retail, FMCG, Hospitality preferred)
  • Tech-savvy and confident in leading digital transformation within HR
  • A credible communicator and influencer, with the confidence to advise senior leaders
  • Commercially astute, hands-on, and driven to make a meaningful impact
