Tradewind Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a well-established Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the London Borough of Brent, who are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their dynamic team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a passion for supporting young people who have been excluded from mainstream education, and who may display challenging behaviour linked to social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

The Role:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting students on both a one-to-one and small group basis. You will work closely with teaching staff, the SENCo, and external agencies to promote positive behaviour strategies and re-engage students in learning. The ideal candidate will have a calm, patient and adaptable approach, with the ability to de-escalate challenging situations and build trusting relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students in managing their behaviour and developing emotional regulation strategies
  • Implementing individual behaviour plans and contributing to intervention strategies
  • Assisting in the delivery of tailored learning activities, both in and out of the classroom
  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor for vulnerable pupils
  • Liaising with families, staff, and external agencies where necessary

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working in a PRU, alternative provision or with students with SEMH needs
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people to reach their potential
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to situations with empathy and consistency
  • A relevant qualification or training in youth work, psychology, or special educational needs is desirable but not essential
