Job Title: Temporary School Attendance Service Officer

About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, organised, and compassionate School Attendance Service Officer to join our Education Services team on a temporary basis. This role plays a vital part in supporting schools, families, and young people to improve school attendance and ensure every child has access to education.
Key Responsibilities
  • Working closely with schools to monitor attendance data and identify patterns of concern.
  • Engaging with children, parents, and carers to support improved attendance and address barriers to education.
  • Conducting home visits where necessary to promote positive attendance and ensure pupil welfare.
  • Providing advice, guidance, and support to school staff regarding attendance procedures and best practice.
  • Preparing reports, maintaining accurate case records, and contributing to statutory processes where required.
  • Liaising with internal teams and external agencies to promote safeguarding and coordinated support for pupils and families.
  • Supporting enforcement procedures in line with local authority policy (e.g., penalty notices), where appropriate.
About You
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with families and professionals.
  • Is confident working with sensitive information and challenging situations.
  • Has strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Can work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Has experience in an educational, social care, or community support role (desirable but not essential).
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Holds a full driving licence and has access to transport for home visits (preferred).
