Prospero Teaching are currently recruiting for a QTS Qualified SEN Class Teacher to join a special needs school in Brent, Northwest London, supporting students with autism, and behavioural needs.

Working Hours:
Monday: 8:40 AM - 3:45 PM
Tuesday: 8:40 AM - 4:45 PM (CPD from 3:45 PM - 4:45 PM)
Wednesday: 8:40 AM - 3:45 PM
Thursday: 8:40 AM - 4:30 PM (Teacher & HLTA meeting from 3:45 PM - 4:30 PM)
Friday: 8:40 AM - 3:45 PM
Schedule: Full Time, 5 days per week
Location: Brent
Start Date: ASAP
Daily Rate: GBP150 - GBP200
Parking: On-site

Role Details:
You will be teaching KS3 to KS5 students with autism and behavioural needs. The role requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to providing a supportive learning environment tailored to the needs of these students.

The School:
This vibrant learning community comprises multiple learning villages, serving pupils aged 3 to 19, with a total enrolment of around 315 students. The school offers a holistic and progressive curriculum, designed to support, challenge, and encourage every young person to actively engage in their learning journey with a zest for experiencing all aspects of life.

About the Students:
All students at the school have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), and many also have additional complex medical conditions or are diagnosed with Autism. The student body is diverse, representing various ethnic backgrounds, cultures, and faiths.

Effective Approaches for Teaching Children with Autism:
PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System): A picture-based system where children exchange pictures to communicate needs and build sentence structures, helping non-verbal children express themselves and reduce frustration.
Makaton: A language program using signs and symbols (alongside speech) to support communication. Its ideal for children with limited verbal skills, helping them understand and use language through visual and manual signs.
Speech-Generating Devices & Other Tools: Devices like iPads with communication apps or communication boards help children express themselves, while visual schedules and social stories support daily routines and social interaction.
