Senior Chemical Engineer – Full-Time, Permanent (West Bromwich)

Monday - Friday: 8am - 4.30pm (30-minute lunch break)

£50,000 - £55,000 per annum 

People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Senior Chemical Engineer to join our well-established client based in West Bromwich on a full-time permanent basis.

This role reports directly to the Chemical Engineering Manager and we are looking to recruit for an immediate start.

Day-to-Day Duties:

  • Initiate, design, implement and commission Plant Modification Proposals
  • Lead hazard assessments and HAZOP studies, ensuring thorough risk management
  • Ensure all chemical engineering work complies with Statutory Regulations and Codes of Practice
  • Collaborate with Project Engineering to develop plant layout, design, and budget proposals
  • Provide expert input on Process Improvement Groups and project teams
  • Support the Research Department with process route development for new/existing processes
  • Advise internal and external stakeholders (engineers, customers, contractors, consultants) on design, safety, and processing techniques
  • Act as Project Leader on designated projects with full responsibility for budget, design, and completion
  • Coordinate design and commissioning resources to align with production budgets and schedules

Essential Skills:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of five years' relevant industrial experience
  • Strong understanding of process design, risk assessments, and commissioning
  • Ability to lead technical projects and multidisciplinary teams

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience developing or improving chemical processes
  • Practical on-plant commissioning and troubleshooting experience
  • Knowledge of COMAH regulations and DSEAR methodology
  • Familiarity with SIL and LOPA assessments
  • Understanding of relief system sizing and DIERS methodology

Training:

  • Ongoing internal and external training available
  • Support for upskilling in safety systems (e.g. SIL, LOPA, DIERS)
  • Career development opportunities in senior project or technical leadership roles
