We are seeking a motivated and experienced Workshop Manager / Engineering Technical Project Manager to join a leading engineering company in Portland. This role requires someone with solid engineering knowledge who can confidently manage day-to-day workshop operations and lead multiple engineering projects. You will be hands-on, working alongside technicians while also overseeing project schedules, quality standards, and customer communications. Please note you must be able to travel to site in Weymouth.
You need to have an engineering background with hands-on experience in areas like engines, gearboxes, hydraulics, electrics, or heavy plant engineering. Experience across Plant, HGV, or automotive sectors is valued.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a skilled team of technicians across various engineering projects (engines, gearboxes, hydraulics, electrics, heavy engineering).
Oversee the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of heavy equipment to ensure readiness and safety.
Manage workshop scheduling, resources, and multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining quality and deadlines.
Spend time on the tools when needed and lead by example.
Liaise professionally with customers face-to-face, by phone, and email, upholding excellent company standards.
Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
Promote and uphold company values, appearance, and culture.
Develop and implement improvements to workshop processes over time.
Qualifications
Physically fit and able to work additional hours as required
hold a full UK driving license.
Comfortable working on the tools and supervising multiple projects/staff simultaneously.
Confident in dealing with customers and stakeholders professionally.
Eager to learn, grow, and take ownership of your role. Enthusiasm and attitude count as much as experience.
