Are you a technically strong engineer who can talk confidently with customers and guide them to the right solution? Looking for a career-defining move into a commercial role where your intelligence, curiosity and drive to win are properly rewarded? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly reputable engineering business supplying complex capital equipment into the food and packaging industry.

About the Company

Our client is a well-established and fast-growing manufacturer of innovative machinery and automated processing equipment. Known for technical excellence, outstanding build quality and a customer-first approach, they work closely with major food and packaging brands across the UK. Investment in product development, training and customer support has been a major part of their success, and the incoming Sales Manager will be joining a company with a strong market reputation and ambitious plans for further growth.

The Role

This is a solution-based sales position—far more consultative than transactional. You will spend time understanding each customer’s production challenges, identifying technical issues and proposing engineered solutions that deliver real value.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Building relationships with production, engineering and operations teams within food and packaging factories
  • Diagnosing mechanical and electrical challenges on customer sites and advising on the right machinery or upgrade
  • Generating new business through cold outreach, networking, site visits and targeted campaigns
  • Managing a healthy pipeline of opportunities—sales cycles can be long, so you must be patient, structured and persistent
  • Presenting proposals and quotations clearly and professionally
  • Working closely with internal engineering and service teams to shape solutions
  • Negotiating commercial terms and securing orders

You’ll typically handle order values ranging from £10,000 to £100,000, with occasional higher-value projects. Expect a target of around £60,000 per month, though the nature of the market means wins can be large but spaced out.

The role is hybrid field and office based, spending about two days a week in the Whitchurch office and the remainder on the road visiting customers, conducting site surveys and progressing opportunities.

Who This Suits

This role is ideal for:

  • A technically strong engineer (mechanical or electrical) who has had customer exposure and wants to make a move into sales
  • Someone coming from a background such as Service Engineer, Applications Engineer, Technical Support, Commissioning Engineer or Maintenance Engineer
  • A motivated individual with something to prove, a desire to earn well and a hunger to build a strong sales career
  • A proactive self-starter who enjoys the chase, cold calling, opening doors and creating new opportunities
  • Someone who can combine technical understanding with commercial confidence
  • A formal engineering qualification is preferred, though strong hands-on experience will also be considered.

What’s on Offer

  • £40,000 – £50,000 basic salary
  • Realistic OTE of £80,000 – £90,000+
  • The chance to sell genuinely high-quality, technically impressive products
  • Huge scope to develop a long-term career in technical capital equipment sales
  • Training, support and coaching to help you succeed
  • A role where your expertise and hard work make a measurable impact
