An established Merseyside local authority is looking for experienced and dedicated Social Workers to join their Duty and Assessment Team. This is a frontline service where you will play a key role in safeguarding children and undertaking meaningful assessments from the point of referral.

As a Duty and Assessment Social Worker, you will be the first point of contact for families and children in need. The role involves completing Section 17 and Section 47 assessments, responding to new referrals, and making informed decisions about next steps, whether thats case closure, support via early help, or stepping up to child protection.

Responsibilities:
  • Complete high-quality social work assessments in line with statutory duties

  • Carry out home visits, gather multi-agency information, and assess risk and need

  • Respond to contacts and referrals in a timely and effective manner

  • Attend strategy meetings, core groups, and case planning discussions

  • Manage a varied and fast-paced caseload within the Duty and Assessment Team

  • Write clear, evidence-based reports for case conferences and court when required

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on the case management system

Requirements:
  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration

  • Experience working in a Duty and Assessment Team or similar frontline childrens service

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding thresholds, child development, and relevant legislation

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-pressure environment

  • Commitment to promoting positive outcomes for children and families
