Your new companyHays Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a mainstream two-form entry primary school in Widnes that is at the heart of its local community. This school is looking to appoint an experienced and reliable teaching assistant for a long-term full-time contract due to additional funding being secured. You will be supporting a Year 5 pupil on a 1:1 basis with a diagnosis of ASD, SEMH and behavioural needs. This school has had funding confirmed for the academic year and may look to appoint on a permanent basis for the correct candidate.Your new roleAs a teaching assistant within this school, you will be the main point of contact for a male pupil in year 5 with SEN. You will be this pupil's main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting him at the school gate and walking him back to his grown-up at the end of the day. You will support your pupil throughout the school day, advocating for them and supporting them inside and outside the classroom. Your pupil has spent a lot of time outside the classroom due to challenges outside of school. You help combat this by implementing positive behaviour strategies and teaching them various coping mechanisms. In terms of PBS, this pupil responds extremely well to positive reinforcement, brain breaks and regulation but, at times, presents complex, challenging behaviours. In this event, you will remove them from the triggering environment and let them burn off steam before re-engaging. As their behaviour improves, you will integrate them back into the classroom and promote their learning and engagement. As the pupils' main point of contact, you will directly report to and liaise with the SENCO and SLT on their progress. What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referenceable experience supporting children and young people, as well as:
