Chemical Process Safety Engineer Job Overview

The purpose of the role is to provide technical safety support across the site, ensuring compliance with UK regulations (DSEAR & COMAH) and effective process safety management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver process safety and engineering support for site operations and projects.
  • Lead and participate in safety studies (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA).
  • Prepare safety documentation including HSE plans, safety specs, study reports and action management.
  • Carry out hazardous area classification and risk assessments.
  • Support compliance with UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Provide technical guidance during design reviews and commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of safety systems and practices.

Chemical Process Safety Engineer Job Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (essential).
  • Chartered status or additional process safety qualifications (desirable).
  • Must have right to work in the UK.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in process safety/chemical engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of COMAH, DSEAR, risk assessment techniques.
  • Skilled in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, LOPA.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work independently and in teams.
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, FMEA or similar improvement methods.
  • Chartered Chemical Engineer status.
  • Experience leading cross-functional problem-solving teams.

Chemical Process Safety Engineer Salary & Benefits

  • 60,000- 70,000 per annum subject to experience
  • 33 days - includes bank holiday entitlement
  • Company Pension - Company contributes 3% and the employee contributes 5%
  • Healthcare - Eligible for BUPA cover after 6 months probationary period.
