Director of Corporate Governance

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL)

Full-time

Salary £91,000 to £105,000 p.a plus NHS benefits

Play a key role in our Trust’s evolution.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) is seeking an experienced Director of Corporate Governance to lead and continually develop our corporate governance, assurance and decision-making frameworks at a time of ongoing organisational change.

This is a senior, influential role for a governance professional who brings deep technical expertise, strong judgement and the ability to operate confidently within a large, complex organisation. While NHS experience is welcome, we are equally keen to hear from candidates with relevant experience from other large public sector bodies or complex private sector organisations.

About the role

As Director of Corporate Governance, you will:

  • Lead the Trust’s corporate governance, assurance and board effectiveness arrangements
  • Provide expert, pragmatic advice to the Board, Committees and senior leaders
  • Ensure governance frameworks support effective decision-making, risk management and organisational confidence
  • Continuously develop governance processes in response to a changing regulatory and operational landscape
  • Act as a trusted professional voice, balancing challenge with collaboration

This is a hands-on, influential role where your expertise will directly shape how governance works in practice.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has significant experience operating at a senior level within corporate governance, assurance or risk
  • Has worked within a large, complex organisation (public or private sector)
  • Brings strong professional credibility and the confidence to advise and challenge constructively
  • Is values-driven, collaborative and able to build trusted relationships
  • Has a track record of improving governance frameworks and ways of working

Why WWL?

WWL is widely recognised as a great place to work. We are proud of our open, supportive culture, our focus on continuous improvement, and the value we place on expert professional leadership. Governance professionals at WWL are trusted partners in the organisation’s development, not just custodians of process.

If you’re looking for a role where your governance expertise will have real impact, we’d love to hear from you.
