Secondary Mainstream School

Working hours: Full-time, Term Time Only (Monday to Friday – 8am to 3pm)

Start Date: ASAP / November 2025

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people who may face barriers to learning. The successful candidate will provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring, helping students to develop confidence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours.

You’ll play a key role in supporting students’ emotional wellbeing, engagement in lessons, and overall school experience.

Learning Mentor’s key responsibilities:

  • Support students with emotional, behavioural, or social challenges to engage positively with school life.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships that promote personal growth and wellbeing.
  • Deliver targeted mentoring sessions to help improve motivation, attendance, and achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams.
  • Monitor and record progress, feeding back to relevant staff members.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and foster a safe, supportive learning environment.

About You

  • Previous experience working with young people in a school or youth setting (essential).
  • A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for helping young people reach their full potential.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or mental health support are desirable but not essential.

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one) is required.
