We are looking for an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to join our client'steam on a short-term basis (3-6 months) to support our Environmental Crime, Air Quality, and Nuisance service in Hampshire. You will play a key role in investigating and resolving environmental crime issues, including fly-tipping, waste offences, statutory nuisance complaints, and air quality matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate reports of fly tipping, waste accumulations, abandoned vehicles, and other environmental crimes.
  • Carry out inspections and gather evidence to take enforcement action where appropriate.
  • Investigate statutory nuisance complaints, including noise, odour, and air quality issues, and take necessary action in line with legislation.
  • Undertake air quality monitoring and contribute to maintaining or improving local air quality standards.
  • Prepare and serve legal notices, and contribute to prosecutions and legal proceedings as required.
  • Work proactively with residents, businesses, and partner agencies to prevent environmental offences and promote community awareness.
  • Maintain accurate case records and provide regular updates to the team.

About You:

  • Proven experience working in an Environmental Protection / Enforcement role within a local authority setting.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, and Anti-Social Behaviour legislation.
  • Experience investigating and enforcing environmental crime, nuisance, and air quality cases.
  • Confident preparing statements and giving evidence in court if required.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision.
