  • Candidates should have experience with SolidWorks and 2D AutoCAD, ideally with a background in mechanical handling or machinery manufacture.
  • The position offers a salary of up to £40,000 per annum along with benefits such as an enhanced pension and health cash plan.
  • Applicants are expected to have relevant experience, preferably as an apprentice-trained mechanical engineer.

Cubed Talent is pleased to offer a new opportunity for a mechanical design engineer to join our client; a specialist in the design, manufacture and install of mechanical handling equipment, with over 40 years' experience in the industry.

As design engineer, your role will be focused on assisting in the design of customer projects, included but not limited to site surveys, equipment/machinery design and installation support.

This is a small business with strong foundations; supported by a large global group specialising in capital equipment manufacture. You'll join an experienced team of 5 within the design department, supported by the technical and general managers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To design & produce detailed drawings using 3D SolidWorks & 2D AutoCAD.
  • Preparation of workshop, layout and Installation drawings.
  • Preparation and supply of installation documentation.
  • Purchase and control of project outsourced items.
  • Liaise with customers, vendors and other third parties.
  • Assist the production team in the fabrication & assembly of manufactured items - on design related matters.
  • Assess cost and methods of work for efficiency improvements throughout the production process.

Some UK and overseas travel may be required as part of the site survey and installation stages. This is expected to be no more than 3-4 times per year, for 1 to 2 weeks at a time. All travel expenditure would be covered by the company in these circumstances.

Candidate specification:

You'll be an apprentice trained mechanical engineer with experience of designing using SolidWorks and 2D AutoCAD. Ideally, you'll be from a background of mechanical handling or machinery manufacture, but this is not essential provided you have experience designing mechanical components. You'll have the ability to design mechanical equipment from scratch and design new concepts, as well as improve and refine existing designs.
