Robertson Bell is proud to be partnering with a dynamic organisation at a key moment in its development, to recruit their next Head of Finance. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to shape the future of financial operations within a progressive institution committed to delivering high-impact outcomes across its community.

As Head of Finance, you’ll work directly with the CFO to lead and evolve the finance operation, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, the strength of financial planning, and the delivery of value-driven procurement and business partnering.

This is a multifaceted leadership role that blends technical excellence with collaborative impact. You'll lead a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, delivering statutory compliance, and embedding a service-oriented approach across the organisation.

Your key priorities will include:

  • Leading the production of statutory accounts and overseeing internal and external audits
  • Ensuring monthly financial reporting is accurate, timely and insight-driven
  • Supporting the CFO on financial strategy, forecasting, and long-term planning
  • Driving operational improvements across finance systems, procurement and contract management
  • Leading procurement strategy and ensuring compliance with public sector frameworks
  • Developing and embedding an effective finance business partnering model
  • Overseeing payroll provision and ensuring accurate cashflow and treasury management
  • Maintaining robust financial governance, risk management and internal control processes
  • Providing training and support to non-finance staff, building confidence and capability
  • Supporting the vision and strategic aims of the wider leadership team

We’re seeking a proactive and driven finance leader with a hands-on approach and a passion for service excellence. You’ll be a confident communicator and skilled problem solver, able to engage effectively at all levels. You will be based our of their Essex office with three visits a week required.

Key experience and attributes include:

  • Fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAEW or equivalent)
  • Significant experience in financial leadership, with a proven track record of delivering results
  • Expertise in statutory reporting, multi-year financial planning and systems development
  • Strong understanding of procurement, contract negotiation and payroll operations
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and developing staff to their full potential
  • Ability to work under pressure and influence change through data, dialogue and leadership
  • Experience working in the higher education or college sector is essential.
