Your new role
Our client is seeking a commercially minded and results-driven Commercial Manager to join their senior team in Wolverhampton. This is a key appointment with clear progression to Commercial Director within 12 months, dependent on performance and delivery. You will take overall responsibility for the commercial performance of live projects, while also implementing process improvements, driving financial control, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and to budget.
Responsibilities will include:
Leading the full commercial function across all construction projects, from tender stage to final account.
Driving profitability through effective cost management, value engineering, and financial reporting.
Developing and implementing commercial strategies to support project success and company growth.
Managing procurement and selection of subcontractors based on capability, value, and fit for project requirements.
Ensuring subcontractor performance aligns with contractual obligations and quality expectations.
Overseeing budget forecasting, risk mitigation, and commercial reporting across multiple projects.
Leading negotiations to optimise contract value and enhance project margins.
Providing leadership and commercial support to project managers and site teams.
What you will need to succeed:
A proven background as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor within an SME contracting environment.
Experience managing multiple projects across sectors such as social housing, education, commercial, healthcare, and industrial.
Demonstrated success in improving commercial outcomes and implementing best practices.
Strong subcontractor management, cost control, and negotiation skills.
Comfortable working in a hands-on, multi-project role within a business of 10m-30m turnover.
A degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a similar field is desirable.
Candidates from exclusively Tier One/main contractor backgrounds will not be considered.
