This client is seeking a highly capable and motivated Payroll Manager to join their dynamic team on a part-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role at one of the UK most exciting sports clubs, taking ownership of a complex payroll function across multiple entities.
As the Payroll Manager, you will be instrumental in managing the end-to-end payroll process while driving continuous improvement through systems implementation and strong people leadership. This role is ideal for someone looking to combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery in a fast-paced, values-led environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the full start-to-finish payroll process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation and club policies.
- Lead on payroll system upgrades and implementations to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.
- Manage and support the payroll team, providing leadership, training, and development.
- Serve as the key point of contact for internal departments (Finance, HR, Legal) and external partners (HMRC, pension providers, benefit platforms).
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of payments, deductions, pensions, P11Ds, and year-end reconciliations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation and best practice, advising senior stakeholders on implications and actions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and standardisation of payroll policies, controls, and processes.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in a payroll management role, ideally within a complex or multi-entity environment.
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, pensions, and statutory reporting.
- Experience with payroll system implementation or transformation projects.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the business.
- A proactive mindset with a passion for process improvement and people development.
- CIPP qualification or working towards it (preferred but not essential).
- Experience in a sporting, hospitality, or events-driven industry is advantageous.
