Mechanical Fitter

Monday - Friday: Rotating AM and PM Shifts - 6.00am - 2.00pm and 2.00pm - 10.00pm

Salary: Competitive – Dependent on experience and qualifications - £40,850 - £43,000 inclusive of a 7.5% shift allowance

People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Fitter to join our well-established client based in Wolverhampton on a full-time permanent basis.

Day-to-Day Duties

You will be responsible for:

  • Fitting, assembly, installation, and stripping of mechanical components
  • Using hand and power tools to precise tolerances
  • Producing low-volume or bespoke machined components to drawing specification
  • Working with mechanical drive systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and instrumentation
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and route cards
  • Collaborating with departments including Quality, Design, HSE, and Inspection teams
  • Operating lathes, millers, borers, and drills
  • Recording work, reporting non-conformities, and updating documentation
  • Working safely under relevant risk assessments, permits, and procedures
  • Identifying and raising non-conformance reports (NCRs)
  • Inputting data (e.g., time sheets, orders, emails) via internal computer systems

Essential Skills

  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent (NVQ Level 3 or similar)
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality-focused
  • Experience with micrometres, verniers, and measuring tools
  • Confident interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • Slinging/signalling and lifting experience
  • Able to follow Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • SC (Security Clearance) eligibility

Desirable Skills

  • Additional certifications such as:
  • MEWP / PASMA / Harness use
  • Forklift / Scissor Lift operation
  • Spark erosion
  • Scaffold inspection
  • Lifting Supervisor or Appointed Person
  • 5S / Lean Manufacturing awareness

Training

  • Ongoing in-house and external training provided to support personal development, and safety compliance, and skill advancement in a bespoke engineering environment
