We are seeking an Assistant Chef to join our dynamic catering team at a bustling residential children's activity centre. This role is ideal for someone who has a passion for cooking and customer service, and is eager to develop their culinary and leadership skills in a supportive and vibrant environment.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Prepare and cook a variety of menu items including breakfasts, soups, sandwiches, salads, and cooked sauces, ensuring adherence to dish specifications and catering standards.
  • Monitor and replenish meals on service counters or salad bars as directed by the Line Manager.
  • Maintain high levels of customer service, ensuring professional and polite communication with all.
  • Actively participate in developing cooking and delegation skills to enhance team performance and food safety.
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the catering department, and manage allergens effectively as per standards.
  • Handle dietary requirements competently as instructed by the Line Manager.
  • Complete Kitchen Diary entries accurately and promptly.
  • Follow stock rotation procedures to ensure freshness and quality of ingredients.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a similar role, with the ability to cook a variety of dishes independently.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, health and safety regulations, and catering standards.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • A proactive approach to personal development in catering knowledge and skills.
  • Willingness to assist in other departments as needed and participate in on-call duty shifts on a rota basis.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
