We’re supporting our client, a global, leading manufacturer based in Worcester, who are looking for a Quality Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Quality Engineer will have previous quality experience within a manufacturing environment demonstrating a clear knowledge of APQP & PPAP.

Job Summary: As a Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the design and development of products through Advanced Product Quality Planning. You will support all European based projects and be responsible for leading the co-ordination of quality activities for products manufactured in other regions (Asia & N.America).

You will be responsible for modelling the way in terms of APQP disciplines, AAR objectivity, Lessons Learnt and FMEA processes. PPAP generation is a key part of the role, and you will have total responsibility for ensuring absolute alignment of PPAP documents & boundary samples between our suppliers and the customer.

You will be responsible for implementing & maintaining a framework of procedures (TS16949) and practices which ensure that the products and services provided within Europe meet the specified design and quality criteria, thus leading to satisfied customers.

This role will predominantly focus on driving a right first-time approach within the NPD & SBU teams. You will positively support all areas of the business as we evolve towards a Lean Enterprise and be active in providing and supporting the implementation of solutions to both quality and business problems. Completed projects, kaizen events and quality improvement programs leading to the achievement of the local and corporate goals will also demonstrate success in the role.

Responsibilities for Quality Engineer:

  • Key player in NPD team, supporting the design and development of products and processes through advanced product quality planning (APQP) ensuring that prevention based systems are utilised. Completes PPAP, EMPB and other customer required submissions on time and in full. Ensure complete alignment of supplier, company and Customer drawings, stds, documents, samples etc. Ensure that the quality system is followed and that project folders are up-to-date at all times. Maintain project reviews in line with the Project plan.
  • Work closely with SQE in order to Co-ordinate supplier activities in terms of APQP and PPAP. Take responsibility for completing and sending out 1314 forms and for supplier PPAP approval.
  • To maintain the company’s recognised quality system and to assist the Quality Manager in the maintenance of quality records.  Success will be measured by the continued certification and positive results of external customer audits. Take responsibility for ensuring any NC's identified in audits for NPD are closed out with good root cause solutions in place.
  • Co-ordinate the activities of Quality resources in other regions for projects being manufactured in those regions but Developed/Distributed in Europe.
  • Drive a right first-time approach by modelling the way in terms of: Good FMEA's, Objective standards for AAR, correct use of Lessons learnt, and support the stage gate review process by conducting regular Pro 04 project audits.
  • Support customer needs by effective corrective and preventative action as required. These reports should be completed within the timelines defined by the customer. Measures will be linked to customer scorecards, accessing customer portals and implementing customer specific requirements where applicable. Success will be measures by customer satisfaction, non-repeating issues and customer report cards. Work closely with the facility teams in order to review and close all quality complaints and internal reject issues (MRR's). Ensure corrective and preventive actions have been implemented and appropriate containment actions have been taken for all pre-launch projects.
  • Maintain excellent relationships within the facility, SC, SBU and customer teams. Communicate the status and progress of programs to Management the Project teams and their customers as appropriate using reports, verbal skills and visual display.

About You:

  • Degree in relevant engineering principle (preferred)
  • 6 Sigma Green Belt (preferred) 
  • Auditor qualification (prefered)
  • Formal FMEA training required
  • Minimum 5 years of Quality experience within a manufacturing environment demonstrating a clear knowledge of APQP & PPAP.
  • A clear and practical understanding of the New Product Introduction requirements of 1st tier automotive customers.
  • A clear and practical understanding of the use of quality improvement methodology such as SPC, DOE, Poka-yoke, 8-D, etc.
  • Good understanding of lean manufacturing (flow) processes, measures and goals in a throughput world.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to sell Quality improvement.
  • Good presentation skills to effectively share success and ideas.
