We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Finance Business Partner to work for Southern Water on a temporary basis for 3 to 4 months. This role will be based at either their headquarters in Durrington or Falmer and you will be working 2 days a week in the office and 3 days from home.

Job Overview
As Finance Business Partner you will work alongside critical business areas, supporting and advising on their strategic and operational decision making by providing proactive value adding insights that drive improved business performance.

You will undertake in-depth complex financial analyses including financial modelling, scenario planning, cost visibility whilst driving budgetary accountability & ownership. You will report on key performance indicators to maximise cost efficiency across business whilst identifying risks, opportunities and improvement opportunities.

It is essential you have good communication skills, and you are comfortable driving conversations with individuals across the whole business. You will need to build strong stakeholder relationships and be confident in taking the lead on providing business insight and adding value to the business. You will be a self-starter, with the ability work autonomously as part of a wider team.

Your Core Duties

  • The finance lead for your assigned business areas, you will be the key point of contact for the provision of financial reporting and support.
  • Responsibility for the budget and in-year forecast processes for opex & capex, providing guidance on key planning assumptions, efficiencies, risks and opportunities, achieving maximum cost efficiency through constructive challenge.
  • Driving improved financial and KPI reporting outputs, delivering accuracy & consistency of reporting output across the Directorate.
  • Providing financial insight & governance across multiple projects / work programs; assessing status, circumstances and recommending appropriate course of action to efficiently deliver project objectives.
  • Fostering close relationship with corporate teams to ensure appropriate financial structures and governance are established and rigorously followed.
  • Driving improvements in forecasting techniques to enhance financial accuracy and ensure compliance with government, regulatory and customer requirements.


About You

  • Ideally a qualified Accountant (or qualified by experience) with experience of working in a commercial business partnering role in a fast-paced organisation.
  • Strong finance capabilities including commercial finance, FP&A, accounting, governance & controls.
  • Excellent communicator, comfortable communicating with & providing proactive financial leadership to non-finance professionals.
  • Adept at autonomously managing multiple responsibilities whilst consistently & accurately delivering to tight deadlines.
  • Sound business acumen; able to demonstrate commercial and operational understanding, accompanied by strong relationship-building, influencing & judgement.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and adapting to a changing operational environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Expert user of core Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of MS Power BI or a willingness to learn.
