Based in Wrexham, an opportunity has arisen to join an established and internationally renowned manufacturing company on a permanent basis. We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Head of Finance to lead our clients financial operations and guide our financial decisions. The Head of Finance will be responsible for financial reporting, compliance, banking, tax and financial planning, as well as advising senior management on fiscal strategy. The ideal candidate has a solid financial background and strong business acumen. The ability to forecast financial trends and manage financial risk is critical to this role.

Performance Objectives

  • Collaborate with the finance department to implement effective succession planning strategies. Address skill gaps and eliminate single points of failure to ensure a robust and resilient team structure.
  • Assign responsibilities in alignment with company requirements to optimise team performance and achieve organisational goals.
  • Responsibility for the overall financial management of the company, including reporting to UK and overseas head offices.
  • Preparation of financial reports.
  • Maintaining compliance with tax and financial regulations
  • Responsibility for all company insurance matters.
  • Maintain relationships with banks, external and internal auditors, HMRC, Head Office and insurers.
  • Identify and lead on cost reduction objectives.
  • Direct external audits and ensure compliance with company policy and accounting practices.
  • Work with the UK Head Office to ensure internal controls and compliance.
  • Compile and approve the VAT return submissions.
  • Ensure all financial data is communicated to the senior management team as well as work to provide any additional information required to inform decision making at strategic level.
  • Develop new and manage existing projects (e.g. digitalisation) with department Manager, including resources, and timescales to achieve desired outcome.
  • Following successful completion of probation and with support from a General Manager, you will be expected to undertake the following responsibilities:

o Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) - Work closely with HMRC and customs consultants to maintain the company’s customs compliance.

o Oversee full compliance for IPR and End Use duty relief authorisations, including review and approval of BOD1 and BOD2 returns.

Person Specification

  • Accounting/finance degree and/or equivalent professional accreditation e.g. CIMA/ACCA.
  • Experience of working in the manufacturing industry would be advantageous.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate management and staff to work towards a common goal.
  • Have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate strategic decisions to the management team, customers, suppliers and partners. Must have strong active listening skills, as well as the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing with people of all skill levels and abilities, and with those from different backgrounds and cultures. Have the aptitude to listen, have empathy, patience, creativity and dependability. Good leaders have strong communication and listening skills, and the ability to give constructive criticism to their team.
  • Able to make sound decisions based on logical and strategic thinking. Be prepared to take responsibility for business decisions and drive results. Have the capacity to face challenging or stressful situations calmly while continuing to make well-considered decisions.
  • Be socially responsible and consider the needs of the environment you operate within.
  • The most important attribute is the skill to motivate staff to work towards a common goal.
  • Have strong organisational and report skills.
  • An ability to negotiate and build relationships.
